Explores American women’s relationship to diverse forms of labor, including domestic, enslaved, reproductive, factory, pink-collar, retail, and emotional. It assesses histories and experiences of working women, their representation in pop culture, and how gender roles shape perceptions of “women’s” work. The course also considers how workplace discrimination, concerns over work/life balance, underemployment and the campaign for living wage.
