UVA in India provides WGS opportunities

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

WGS Associate Professor, Geeta Patel, is organizing an opportunity to study in India for Spring 2016.  The program is open to anyone and is especially suited to be tailored to students with an interest in Women, Gender & Sexuality.  UVA in India is working closely with feminist NGOs in India  to set up internship/externship possibilities in governance, law, managing violence and health care for WGS students interested in these areas. The methodology course, GSGS 3559 Interdisciplinary Research Methods, is designed around feminist theory and methods. SAST 3300 The Pleasures of Bollywood has gender and sexuality as axes of analysis. Required courses are conducted in English (language learning is not a requirement for the India program). The program is unusual in that it has students doing UVA semester long courses on the global south in the global south with students from the global south. Students will also have great living arrangments and the program very much encourages students who have never thought of working on south asia (including those who have) to come to Delhi, a city that is as exciting as Rome to do a semester away from grounds. Application deadline is October 1, 2015.
Geeta Patel if you have any questions. We will also conduct two information sessions, where the R.A. living with the students in Delhi will try and skype in to talk to you about what living and learning in Delhi is like. Email Geeta Patel, patel.weston@gmail.com if you have any questions.
